Curriculum
At The Nest Nature School, we are nurturing strong bodies, inquisitive minds, & wild hearts.
Hands-on experiences in nature and research-based teaching methods support an education where every student can thrive. The Nest provides a rich child-centered learning environment built on our uniquely developed curriculum that prioritizes exceeding developmentally appropriate Pre-Kindergarten learning standards.
Our curriculum incorporates play and learning in nature to best support the whole child academically, socially, emotionally, physically, and spiritually to ensure that they are prepared for Kindergarten and beyond. We believe in supporting the whole child to foster a deep love for life-long learning, a sense of wonder for the natural world, and confidence in their brains and bodies.
A school like no other!
Our rich, child-centered learning environment is built for free-ranging minds and bodies. Each indoor classroom has an adjacent screened porch as an outdoor learning space nestled among the oaks. Children learn from doing, using Emergent Curriculum. This exceptional hands-on learning experience exceeds the accepted standards of most pre-kindergarten programs.
Rooted in the work of noted early childhood theorists like Dewey, Piaget, and Vygotsky, emergent curriculums are flexible and dynamic, taking into consideration the skills, needs, and interests of each child. At the Nest, our teachers plan activities and projects based on the specific group of children they are working with.
Located on the Historic Herff Farm, alongside the beautiful Cibolo Creek and nestled among climbing trees, natural playgrounds, and gardens, our school seamlessly incorporates nature play and learning into its curriculum. In doing so, we support developing bodies, minds, and hearts so thoroughly, our little graduates thrive in kindergarten and beyond. They develop an abiding curiosity and love for learning, respect for the natural world, and an inner confidence in their own brains and bodies. The Nest Nature School offers such a solid learning foundation that when our little students graduate, they are ready to fly.
