Wrapping Up Spring 2025
Our new program A Taste of the Nest came to an end this week. The 7-week program was aimed towards families wanting to learn more about The Nest and nature-based education. Each week, a new theme was explored, giving young children and their families an idea of what a day in the life at The Nest looks like. Each of these experiences is designed to meet the Pre-Kindergarten Texas Essential Knowledge Standards (TEKS) in a hands-on way, just as we do in each of the cottages. Our focus at The Nest is developing Strong Bodies, Inquisitive Minds, and Wild Hearts.
Our littlest learners learned about trees, flowers, water, dirt, ice, mud, and natures colors!
We started each session with a traditional Waldorf song, “Good Morning, Dear Earth”. Then, we read a quick read-a-loud relating to that weeks topic.
When it was time for a hike, we explored the 60 acres of land on The Herff Farm. At each location, we engaged in a variety of sensory activities that helped students develop fine motor, gross motor, social-emotional, and beginning academic skills. Every child had the opportunity to freely explore and create.
